Obedience Class Descriptions
Beginner Puppy Class
Offered to dogs 3 to 6 months old. This class focuses on the important foundation exercises during this critical time period in puppy development. This class will teach puppies to get along with other dogs in class, to come when called, and to sit and lie down on command. Owners will be introduced to the hand signals that accompany these basic verbal commands. Puppy Manners are also addressed to prevent unwanted behaviors such as jumping and pulling owners through open doors.
Beginner Adult Class
Offered to dogs 6 months and older. This class is for dogs with no formal training or for dogs that need a better understanding of the basic commands. You and your dog will learn the basic skills necessary to build teamwork. The basic commands such as sit, down, come, stay, and leave it will be introduced. Owners will be introduced to the hand signals that accompany these basic verbal commands. The class will also work on loose leash walking and Dog Manners.
Advanced Beginner Class
This class is offered to dogs that have taken a beginner class and have an understanding of the basic commands. This class will help build a bridge to developing more formal obedience skills by increasing duration and distance, and proofing with distractions appropriate to each dogs level of ability. Owners and their dogs will hone the skills learned in Beginner Class and work on problems that may still exist during these exercises. We will focus on skills that include left and right turns, recalls with distractions, sits and downs with walk arounds, down from stand position, and stays with distractions.
This class is offered to dogs that have a reliable response to basic commands with distractions learned in Beginner and Advanced Beginner Classes. Students in this class will work toward off-leash reliability through further proofing of the basic skills.
